Testimony - Living with sun allergy
This is the story of Cécilia, a young mother who has lived with a sun allergy since childhood. Her story is a reminder that life can be beautiful in spite of obstacles.
It all started when I was 12 years old. I was on vacation in the south of France visiting my grandparents when I suddenly developed pimples and spots on certain parts of my body, particularly on my inner thighs and around my armpits. What started as an itch turned into a permanent discomfort.
After undergoing phototests at the Saint Louis Hospital in Paris in 2020 and 2021, I received my diagnosis: I'm allergic to the sun, specifically to UVA and UVB rays. Exposure to the sun causes painful skin reactions, sometimes developing into bullous eczema, which causes blisters on my skin.
Since then, I've had to take steps to protect my skin. For example, I avoid sun exposure as much as possible and cover sensitive parts of my body with cotton clothing, such as light pants and long-sleeved T-shirts, when I'm in the city. However, beach vacations have always been a challenge because I need to cover up without getting too hot.
After years of struggling with this allergy, I've finally accepted that it's a part of my life, despite numerous treatments. Just because we're black doesn't mean we're immune to the dangers of the sun. I'm black, I have melanin, I thought I was immune to the sun's harmful rays, but I ended up being sensitive to them.
My life changed when I discovered KER SUN. I was looking for a covering swimsuit, consisting of a jacket and leggings, that would allow me to enjoy the beach without fear of triggering an eczema attack. Thanks to your specially designed sunscreen, I can now enjoy the pleasures of summer with complete peace of mind.
Despite the challenges I face with my sun allergy, I remain hopeful. My trip to Martinique with my KER SUN jacket and leggings was a positive experience. I felt good, I was able to make the most of my time with my family, and people were very nice to me.
