Dermographism and outdoor activities: how Marie-José can now hike without itching

Marie-José's testimonial

For 25 years, Marie-José, 74, has lived with dermographism, a skin condition that causes an excessive reaction to the slightest rubbing or scratching, leading to redness, swelling and severe itching. Initially mild, it worsened over time until it caused itching all over her body, which became unbearable for her.

Her doctor prescribed antihistamines, which she takes every day.

"The symptoms disappear for as long as the tablets are working."

The problem

Reactions that appear during her walks

About four years ago, Marie-José began developing outbreaks of spots and red patches on her legs and thighs during her walks, accompanied by intense itching.

These reactions appeared despite applying sunscreen with the highest level of protection and taking her antihistamines.

Thinking that her legs might have been too exposed, she stopped wearing shorts. But even with her legs covered, nothing changed.

Trying to understand what was causing these reactions, she came up with another theory.

"I thought it might have been due to the dye in the clothing."

She then changed sportswear brands several times, but without any improvement.

When she consulted her doctor, he told her that she was most likely experiencing a UV allergy and prescribed a soothing ointment. It relieved the symptoms, but did not address the underlying problem.

Discovering Ker Sun

A discovery made with scepticism

A few weeks ago, Marie-José discovered Ker Sun.

"As a last resort, I ordered your UV-protective trousers with some scepticism."

She decided to wear them on a 25-kilometre hike.

The result surprised her.

"And yet the miracle happened. After a 25 km walk, I had no skin rash at all."

For Marie-José, it was a true relief.

"For me, it is a total relief. Thank you to you and your team of researchers for giving me back the joy of being able to go hiking without constraints."
